LuLu

This is LuLu’s story

LuLu was a birthday gift from two friends. We bought her at the pet store when she was 2-3 months old. She was the last one left from her litter, the last one in the display cage. When I took her out of the cage to play with her, she was very agitated, aggressive and vocal. But Hey! That’s how many people would have described me back then….it was 2002. LuLu’s front paws were already declawed which was something I was looking for. Don’t get me wrong, even back in those days I would not have declawed a kitten myself, but if there is one out there looking for a good home, I’ll take her. So I did.  Little did I know.

This is LuLu as a kitten, around 4 months old

Like any kitty, LuLu liked to hide in unexpected places

And refused to let me use my PC

When I was still living with my dad, she slept next to my head, between her favorite toys

LuLu remained vocal and aggressive. She’s always tolerated me because you know, I feed her and scoop up her poop. She is very possessive and over protective of me; I believe she thinks I am her mommy and is desperate not to lose me.  There is a lot of love between LuLu and I but she has very little patience for anyone around me. LuLu will always be my sweetheart, my first cat, and the one who taught me the greatest lessons.

I have to be honest; we did have moments of affection, especially when I was living alone.  I especially enjoy sleeping in the same bed. LuLu has never been a cuddler but to this day she sleeps at my feet. This gave me tremendous peace of mind when I lived alone, on the first floor of a not so secure building. My thought process was that if anyone would attempt to get in, LuLu would hear right away and give me a sign so I can quickly escape my assailant. The purring sounds also helped me sleep well.

A little over weight? Chilling watching TV.

When Dan and I started dating in 2006, LuLu had a hard time adjusting. The truth is that she is still adjusting. She has always had an aversion towards strong women (?) with the exception of my mom and step mom but she has always liked men, with the exception of Dan…So back in 2006, Dan would get attacked out of nowhere…come to think of it he must have been traumatized by LuLu. She ain’t no small kitty. In 2006, on a full kibble diet, she weighed close to 9Kg. Imagine having that jump at you from dark corners in the middle of the night when all you are trying to do is go to the bathroom…

She loves sitting on whatever it is I am trying to do…like learn French
…or read the paper

About a year later, 2007, I moved in with Dan. I thought this would be good for LuLu because she now had more room and a back yard with full access to the neighborhood. But LuLu stayed close to the house, never venturing too far and never staying out over night unless forgotten by mistake. Those were the times she slept under the back porch.  She stopped sleeping with me; she actually stopped that as soon as Dan started spending the night. I missed her.

LuLu does not get along with other animals

LuLu is the happiest when her and I are alone. These days we don’t get enough quiet moments with each other, and, in true LuLu fashion, I am not forgiven. My promise to LuLu is that, now that I am aware, I will try my best to mend our relationship.
